Thomas Cook Airlines, the largest long-haul carrier operating from Manchester Airport, is offering direct flights to the glorious Caribbean island of Tobago in Winter 2016.
Going on sale at the end of November 2015, the flights will depart every Sunday with the inaugural flight taking place on 13th November, 2016.
Christoph Debus, chief airlines and hotels officer for Thomas Cook Group, said: “This is a further development of our already substantial long haul offering from Manchester Airport and shows our ambitions to take more people, to better places on holiday than ever before.
“And our customers can fly direct from Manchester instead of having to connect via London, they get more fun time at this amazing new destination.”
Deputy Chief Secretary of the Tobago House of Assembly and Secretary for Tourism and Transportation, Tracy Davidson-Celestine, said: ““I am very excited about our partnership with Thomas Cook Airlines. The northern England, London and Scotland markets have always expressed high interest in destination Tobago and our new service will allow us to tap into this market. This will translate very well for our tourism product.”
Stephen Turner, Commercial Director at Manchester Airport said: "It's fantastic news that Thomas Cook Airlines is expanding its long haul operation for Winter 2016. Tobago is an exciting new scheduled route for Manchester Airport and provides greater access to the Caribbean for our passengers. It also follows on from the launch of their routes to New York and Miami this year and the start of their new routes to Boston and Los Angeles for Summer 2016.
"We are seeing more and more passengers 'Fly Manchester', which is evident after our most successful year on record where 22.9m passengers currently travel through the UK's third biggest airport. With our two full length runways and a £1bn transformation program announced, Manchester Airport has, and will continue to have, the available capacity and demand to meet the needs of our catchment area that extends as far North as Scotland and South to the Midlands."
The creation of around 12,000 potential new seats to Tobago by Thomas Cook Airlines coincides with the expansion of the island’s room-stock as work continues on to the Manta Lodge and Sanctuary Resorts. When completed 78 upscale rooms will be added to the island’s inventory.
